Blogging Along

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed! It was my 'Seaside Friend' that suggested that I begin a Blog and here I sit after typing so many entries.  It's been a journey through illnesses, deaths, wellness and many celebrations - thank you for sharing each of them with me.

I have met many people through this excercise and to each of you I 'tip my hat'.   We each are very different from one another and that adds to the enjoyment of reaching out.

As I continue to Blog, we will keep an eye on Black Rose as she travels through Graduation plans, a trip to Europe, Graduation .......     Naturally, we will continue to head to the Bay of Fundy whenever we can through our journeys here on "Think outside of the box". We'll follow hubby and me through further renovations and into the 'empty nest' stage of our lives. Where does the time go????   Can I please turn back the clock on some things?  No?  Well, you can't blame a girl for trying.

"Pooh!" he whispered.
"Yes, Piglet?"
"Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's paw.

"The Lost Keith Girls" - May 16, 1816

Where...................
We have driven by this spot many times and never stopped to read the 'stone'.  The history we missed by driving so quickly today is sad.  This story, too pulled at our hearts.

"This is the location of the pioneer farm of George & Abigail (Clark) Keith. On May 16, 1816, their daughters Eliza aged 7 and Mary Ann aged 5, dissappeared into the forests of colonial New Brunswick. Although the community searched extensively, all efforts were in vain.
After three decades of silence, Eliza was found living in a distant Mi'kmaq village. She briefly returned to Butternut Ridge (Havelock), visited with her mother, was able to recognize her elderly grandmother, and gave an account of being abducted by native peoples. She chose to return to her Mi'kmaq husband.
Years later, a wandering Mary Ann returned, but in such a troubled condition that she was unable to give an account of herself.  She roamed the countryside until her death.
The story of these girls has been told far and wide, and is recorded in early history books of this province.
Placed by the Keith Family Organization, 2004".

I have included a link that tells more of the story.

Castles

Okay, maybe not.  We found this on the 'back way' to Sackville through Dorchester NB.
Maybe it's their idea of a fortress against those in Dorechester Penitentary which is just down the way?

New Truck

One day, Jimmy Jones was walking down Main Street when he saw his buddy Bubba driving a brand new pickup.

Bubba pulled up to him with a wide grin.

'Bubba, where'd you git that there truck?!?'

'Tammie give it to me' Bubba replied.

'She give it to ya?

I know'd she wuz kinda sweet on ya,but a new truck?'

'Well, Jimmy Jones, let me tell you what happened.

We wuz drivin' out on County Road 6, in the middle of nowheres. Tammie pulled off the road, put the truck in 4-wheel drive, and headed into the woods. She parked the truck, got out, threw off all her clothes and said:
'Bubba, take whatever you want.'
So I took the truck!

'Bubba, yore a smart man! Them clothes woulda never fit you!'

John came to visit!

I used to work with John.  He came to visit with us today and we took him to the Fundy Trail.  He has never been and he was like a kid in the candy shop!! :)   I love to take folks to the Trail, but especially if they have never seen it before.
He kept pointing and grinning!   It was so much fun!
Then we took him to the Lighthouse in West Quaco.  And again, he didn't disappoint.  He hadn't been there either.  Wahoo.    The sad thing is, that he himself grew up not too far from here and has never really 'seen' it.

Hurricanes - they all have names, but how?

Who decides? How far in advance?  These, and many more questions have come to mind being that it is once again Hurricane Season. Working in Realtime Management within Operations, our Team needs to keep updated on Hurricanes.  We need to know where/when they may strike, thereby affecting any number of  our Clients as well as our own Employees.

SO..................

Experience shows that the use of short, distinctive given names in written as well as spoken communications is quicker and less subject to error than the older more cumbersome latitude-longitude identification methods. These advantages are especially important in exchanging detailed storm information between hundreds of widely scattered stations, coastal bases, and ships at sea.

Since 1953, Atlantic tropical storms have been named from lists originated by the National Hurricane Center. They are now maintained and updated by an international committee of the World Meteorological Organization. The original name lists featured only women's names. In 1979, men's names were introduced and they alternate with the women's names. Six lists are used in rotation. Thus, the 2009 list will be used again in 2015.

The only time that there is a change in the list is if a storm is so deadly or costly that the future use of its name on a different storm would be inappropriate for reasons of sensitivity. If that occurs, then at an annual meeting by the WMO committee (called primarily to discuss many other issues) the offending name is stricken from the list and another name is selected to replace it.

Several names have been changed since the lists were created. For example, on the 2007 list (which will be used again in 2013), Dorian has replaced Dean, Fernand has replaced Felix, and Nestor has replaced Noel. Here is more information about retired hurricane names.

In the event that more than 21 named tropical cyclones occur in the Atlantic basin in a season, additional storms will take names from the Greek alphabet: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and so on. If a storm forms in the off-season, it will take the next name in the list based on the current calendar date. For example, if a tropical cyclone formed on December 28th, it would take the name from the previous season's list of names. If a storm formed in February, it would be named from the subsequent season's list of names.

If you would like to see a complete list for 2010-2015 and/or you (or maybe a kid/grandkid) wants to for a project, please visit http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutnames.shtml.

Mini-Tornado - December 2007

It is Christmas Eve 2007 and Black Rose and I run out to purchase one last gift.  Let me tell you here and now, I worked in Retail for too many years to even THINK of going shopping within 2 weeks of Christmas.  But, hubby needed a jacket and we had seen a store with them marked down a few weeks prior and prayed they were still going down.  So, out we ran.

We came home to a voice message from the campground owner advising we should come down and check the trailer.  My heart stopped.   It is Christmas Eve and my sister in law Patty (see Reflection ) and Wilsons Disease (2-15-09) is due home for the Holidays.  Hubby is working. So I call the Campground owner to find out what is up.  Turns out there was a Mini-Tornado that went through in the early morning and our unit as well as one other has been damaged.  So, I call Hubby and load up Black Rose (well, tell her to get in) after calling the Insurance agent to leave a vm just in case we need him.

I know, it is only a THING right.   Well you are right, but when we drove around the turn and saw that we were about 6 feet closer to the neighbor.   OH MY.   You can really tell in this shot how much we were moved and raised.  But wait...........................the inside........

Looks like a home invasion gone bad!!!   Oh my word, the drawer is on the opposite side of the trailer, the fridge has gone through the pantry door (that's the back of the fridge on the left), the oven door was wide open and the racks are fully extended and the dishes from the cupboards are smashed on the floor.

But, we are safe and things can be replaced.  Turns out the trailer was dumped onto its side closest to the neighbor and came back up, thus causing the damages you see.   In doing that, the tip outs (which thankfully are left full open all the time) had dug a hole in the ground and forced the unit to go upright again.   We did not have any broken windows, the snow was little, and no one was hurt.

Our unit was moved back to where it belongs and we have since added a deck and truly enjoy our time here.

Come on over anytime and join us.

We can sit and enjoy the view, we would love to spend time with you.

We met Earl at the Campground

Hurricane Earl hit the East Coast (Maritimes) Saturday, September 4th. So we, as campers, battened down the hatches and waited.   I tried to get you photos of the white caps on the Bay of Fundy, but my camera decided it didn't like those batteries. Sorry.

I had ventured to the ocean to catch a close up glimpse of the white caps (clearly seen from my unit and deck) and met others there too.   Once again -these not the white caps (I am so mad).

Earl hit the campground with a howl and kept coming with the rains.  He has since moved on and people are emerging from their units to check on neighbors and the ocean floor.

You can't see in this photo, but there are people walking biking and meeting at the beach to access the damage. These folks are meeting at one of the units.

Thankfully we were lucky (not like Hurricane Bill and the Mini-tornado of Dec 07 - a story and photos for another day).   We only had the high winds, rain and little damage anywhere.  Others are not so lucky.

MACH 1

She did it!  Black Rose wrote her Beginners this week and did GREAT! Congratulations! Now, to get some driving time in for the next 'leg' of this adventure.  She and I have been out a few times and she's doing GREAT!  Wahooo...meep  meep.

Black Rose's dream car is a MACH 1 (1971-73). She has had her eyes (for 8+ years)  on a 'run down', rusted, sitting there for years MACH1. We drive by it each time we come and go to the 'cottage' (as my Seaside Friend has loveingly named it). We even stopped a few years back to see if he would consider selling it as is where is. Black Rose could offer it to the 'Shop Boys' as a project in order to assist them get their grades and in turn, she would have a car with all of the responsibilities that come along with it.

The gentleman said he was going to fix it it. Right! It's still sitting in the same place without anyone to love it. It's too bad really that we let such things just rot in the ground. Not that we have much money, but one might be surprised the compassion one might feel knowing this young teen has been watching this car for YEARS. I was going to include a photo of it in it's current shape, but wouldn't ya just know it - we went to the Cottage another way. I will post one for you next week.

Drive on Black Rose- be safe and congratulations! Sorry that I don't have a Mach 1, but you can borrow my Kia :) Love Mama

A couple of gentlemen that we ran into along the way. The top one reminds me of my deseased Father-in-law (Black Rose says the same thing).
