Mini-Tornado - December 2007

It is Christmas Eve 2007 and Black Rose and I run out to purchase one last gift.  Let me tell you here and now, I worked in Retail for too many years to even THINK of going shopping within 2 weeks of Christmas.  But, hubby needed a jacket and we had seen a store with them marked down a few weeks prior and prayed they were still going down.  So, out we ran.

We came home to a voice message from the campground owner advising we should come down and check the trailer.  My heart stopped.   It is Christmas Eve and my sister in law Patty (see Reflection ) and Wilsons Disease (2-15-09) is due home for the Holidays.  Hubby is working. So I call the Campground owner to find out what is up.  Turns out there was a Mini-Tornado that went through in the early morning and our unit as well as one other has been damaged.  So, I call Hubby and load up Black Rose (well, tell her to get in) after calling the Insurance agent to leave a vm just in case we need him.

I know, it is only a THING right.   Well you are right, but when we drove around the turn and saw that we were about 6 feet closer to the neighbor.   OH MY.   You can really tell in this shot how much we were moved and raised.  But wait...........................the inside........

Looks like a home invasion gone bad!!!   Oh my word, the drawer is on the opposite side of the trailer, the fridge has gone through the pantry door (that's the back of the fridge on the left), the oven door was wide open and the racks are fully extended and the dishes from the cupboards are smashed on the floor.

But, we are safe and things can be replaced.  Turns out the trailer was dumped onto its side closest to the neighbor and came back up, thus causing the damages you see.   In doing that, the tip outs (which thankfully are left full open all the time) had dug a hole in the ground and forced the unit to go upright again.   We did not have any broken windows, the snow was little, and no one was hurt.

Our unit was moved back to where it belongs and we have since added a deck and truly enjoy our time here.

Come on over anytime and join us.

We can sit and enjoy the view, we would love to spend time with you.

What an amazing improvement with the beautiful deck. It looks so inviting. Tornado's are so scary and destructive, but glad your damage was repairable.

Thank you Dolores. We love it by the Bay of Fundy and this is our 'cottage' as my Seaside Friend has lovingly named it. We were lucky in that not even an insurance claim was required, just some hard work and replacements.
