Our Pets

These guys even camp with us.  The dog is 9 years old next month and the rat (yep, it's a rat) will be 1 in the fall. When we travel they go by carrier - one for each of them.  They sit in the back seat buckled and ready to explore. 

Time Together

Saturday we had company from Kentucky!  Yep, those that follow may remember that my brother is there! They are home for a few week's visit and came down for the day. Lobster!  I should have taken a picture with them 'layed' out (6 of them around 2.5 lbs each).  An aquired taste that not all of us share.  This was the last weekend for the season here.  We were able to get our lobster for $5.50/lb!!!  Wahoo.  Thanks Jack!

What another nice day we had Sunday! We, and company, made the treck to Duck Pond to show them the sights and then we had a picnic lunch.

Oldfield Covered Bridge

As I was driving along I came to a sign.....so, I followed the arrow....

and came to this covered bridge.

Thinking.........just thinking

I am a planner.  My Seaside Friend will attest to that.  Yep I plan in advance, yet I can be impulsive.
As I age I am continuously reminded that I am doing just that - aging.  As many of you  know, we have had our share of funerals in the last number of years.   I have already made note of  a few things that I would prefer not to have done during and for my memorial service. You are thinking rather morbid,  right?  Well, the way I look at it is that this way my family doesn't have as much to worry about.  The way I figure it, the more I have written down, the less they have to try to 'get in my head'.  Land help them.  There are days when even I don't want in my head!!
I have also chosen my casket and some songs that I like. Included is a note of where I would like them placed in the service.  Oh and speaking of service, I don't want a sermon.  Try to say some nice things about me for heavens sake, but please no sermon.

SHE'S COME UNDONE

I enjoy a good read. Let me start by saying that 'F' is NOT my favorite letter followed by 3 letters! BUT, this book kept me coming back (or not putting it down in a lot of cases).  Even though I was very fortunate  in life as a teen, I could still relate.  The biggest thing about the way this book is written is that I had to kept checking the back cover to confirm the writer is male!  I can't believe the insight this guy has!!  I am going to be looking for his other novels.  One little bit before you head to your next blog read though:

"So, did you get your eyes tested?   Yeah. I need bi-focals. I didn't order any though. The girl holding up the mirror was snapping her gum. I just kept trying on all these frames and getting more and more confused. It's weird, you know? One minute you're this cool young guy with a Camaro and your whole life ahead of you. The next you're some old farsighted fart sitting across from an 'optical consultant' who's young enough to be your daughter." Taken from novel "SHE'S COME UNDONE" by Wally Lamb.   I can't relate to being "this cool young guy" but rest I can, how about you?

Pictures one is given

We had been given a bunch of candid pictures taken by a guest that had attended our wedding. Back then, you had to WAIT for pictures to be developed - wow have times changed. While looking through we found one with this gentleman dumping the bag onto the windshield (see it there?).  Guess where it went? Right!  Sucked right into the fan on that Humid June evening.
We couldn't figure out how all that confetti kept coming out of the fan for MONTHS!  Actually it still 'puffed out' several years later later when we traded it. Thanks DAD!

A dear Grandmother

A very special lady this one was.  A more kind soul you could never have met.  I honestly never heard her speak an unkind word of anyone. I wish I were more like her.  I have always loved these photos.  I recall the photographer just leaned in an 'snapped' the picture.   We miss you.

Thank you

Thank you to each of you who shared with us this week.  In  the sadness of my Father-In-Law's passing as well as the happiness of our 22nd Wedding Anniversary.  Thank you for the many cards, flowers, visists and food supplied.  It is wonderful to visit with friends and family, sometimes the timing isn't what we would have liked but life happens.

My Father-in-Law

A Veteran, a husband, a farmer, a father,a man that enjoyed drawing and appreciated music, one who beat cancer, stricken with Alzheimers, and taken by heart failure on May 31st. Funeral June 4.  RIP 1919-2010
