Days Like This

Some people drink, some smoke, some gamble, some travel.
We do all of the above - wait hear me out!
We 'drink' up savings with our car purchases and the insurance to cover them and more. We "smoke" down the highway as we "gamble" on our "travel"s around the Province. Most of which is to St. Martins and Fredericton. But we love our family and enjoy the time together. Spring is only what, 25 days away? Camping soon! Wahooo. Oh and University tuition fees and insurance changes and taxes and...........and........and.... yep, life's a gamble.

I have had a 'day like this' and needed a smile.
I enjoyed this 'pick me up'.

A birthday is a day when a person celebrates the anniversary of her birth

My mom and dad - oh so young!

Graduation.

Then came marriage......
I can't seem to find a wedding photo - darn.

A few years later....
Along came some chubby kid (that's me).
The first of 2 kids.

AND then...
We all tried the fitness thing.
Bro must have taken the photo as he's missing.

Just think...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quips and Snips

A few I have come across or considered lately.

"When you're a teenager, your friends are your life.
When you grow up, friendships,
seem to get pushed further and further back,
until it seems like a luxury,
a frivolity, like a buble bath".

"Happiness is a risk.
If you're not a little nervous,
then you're not doing it right".

Love this one:
"Fate never promises to tell you everthing up front.
You aren't always shown the path in life
you're supposed to take.
But,
when you're really lucky,
you meet someone with a map".

Sometimes life's just like that

November 5, 2012 purchased car.
February 13, 2013 first accident.
Doesn't matter that I wasn't driving
and it was an animal that came out of nowhere.

Wait a minute,
that hole wasn't even a vent allocation before.

Doesn't look like $4000 dollars damage does it?
It's like how you treat people - it's not necessarily what you see that hurts,
sometimes it's what's inside that has been damaged the most.
In this case it's the bumper which is all one piece from bottom to hood and around,
the rad needs replaced, the air conditioning compressor needs replaced,
painting and labor.
Wahooo thank goodness for insurance!

AND, TADAA,
here are my new boots!

I just knew you would find these funny!

My feet are the only thing on me that stayed small.
Size 4 boys - $8.68!!!

Snow - with more to come

I have a rental in here somewhere...........
ahhh I see red!

from the non-plowed side
and now

from the plowed side.

Driving home,
not so nice today

from my Office window
see the snowbank in the backgournd?

The water bottles left on the front
step with the rope lights behind.

More snow (another 10-20 cms) on the way.
I may get to use my snowshoes!
If only I could get a day off
that wasn't stormy or I wasn't
under the weather.

'til next time
play safe.

Sometimes **** Happens

Not looking so much like the above photo today.

First, let me ask you.  Did you think the **** meant something that
begins with 'S'?  Well, guess what - it didn't.

It was Sometimes Crap Happens.

Picture this -
It's Wednesday, February 13th
at close to 11 p.m.

We had taken a new bank card to Black Rose,
enjoyed a light supper and  shopping together
and had
picked up a company car (a favor for work).

What a week!
It's been a difficult week at work.
Then Black Rose lost her University
identification and bank cards.
And then.....

We were each driving a car.
He had gotten tired of driving behind the semi for almost an hour
and had passed me and the semi.
I too passed the Semi.
I was in a company car behind hubby, he was driving my car.

Time and KM/Miles continue
to pass in
the total darkness of the highway.

Wait, what's that????
I see a large racoon
(between us we say it was 20 lbs)
come running out onto the highway.
Poor hubby, he had slowed when he saw it coming -
who would have dreamed it would run INTO the car
and rebound into the other lane?
Then as hubby began to drive again, it jumped up
and ran in front of him!

WHAM, THUMP, THUMP.

We pulled over to inspect the damage .
 The skirting is broken and
some liquid is coming from under the front.
Not a great amount of water, so we decide to try to make
it to our local Car Doctor's shop.
.
However, as we began to slowly head down the highway again,
the tempature gauge climbed so we again pulled over.
On an EXTREMELY low battery -  I called a local Tow Truck owner.
After watching my car being loaded onto the truck bed,
we both climbed  into the Company car and continued towards home.

We picked up his car and then delivered the Company car to my boss' place.
It was now past midnight and time to get home for the night.
Tongue in cheek I told hubby "happy valentines".

Please forgive me Black Rose,
I kind of 'fibbed' on your inquiry text
"Get home safe"?
This arrived as we waited for the tow.
I knew you would worry if I didn't say yes.
In truth, we were only 3 Miles from home
with no injuries.
We could even see the Bigstop sign.
God is good.

Maybe this was a lesson in Patience?

Today I picked up my rental
after spending much time working with
the Insurance Company,
the garage,
and the car rental dealership.

It's small in light of other things going on,
but a recount of a frightening
yet somehow funny thing.
Picture a Pin Ball Game.
That's what comes to mind when I replay in my mind how the racoon
entered the highway at full speed and ran into a car.

Won't you be my .............Valentine?

Hubby and I have been married
25 years come June.

It once was that we worked the same schedules,
worked side by side all day,
travelled together
and overall were together 24/7.
Boy was I glad for Spring when my car came out
of storage so I could drive myself where ever
I wanted to go when I wanted to go.

Then, I changed jobs.  You know the way of it.
Reduced hours meant less pay. More work, less hours.
So, I seeked out a job with full-time hours and better pay.

Well, I got a different job, in a different vocation
and with all over night hours.
Now,
I must admit when I applied with this company,
I requested overnight as Black Rose was young
and hubby could be there at night and I would
be there for her when she got out of School.
Makes sense, right?

So, hubby and I were ships passing for many years (8.5 years).

Now, I am back to 'regular' hours and we have
well.....
grown apart.

So, we are going to start
dating!

Not really, but sort of.
Our first 'date' will be a "Romantic Evening in Italy",
which includes a romantic italian meal for 2, door prizes
and entertainment.

I wonder what the meal will be?

Maybe spagetti?  *smiles*

Should be great fun.
Happy Valentines Day.

Driving along - enjoying the stops

Family Tarten on a garage door

 Courthouse

This was once a garage - now it's

A restaurant where we stopped for Brunch!

Old film reels

 Old community photos

I thought this was cute.

This is rare here - see this cow?

The Galloway cattle (also known as "Oreo Cows") all have a white "belt" around their midsection

And the next day.....................the snow came.
High winds and cold temps.

There are houses over there.

And my car...

was buried by morning.  I had to tunnel
it out to 'plow' the snow to get out
of the drive so the real plow could plow.

Whew - love Canada, eh.
