Thus it begins - 'The Grad Ring"

I can't believe that Black Rose and her friends have travelled through 13 years of friendship and are now ordering Grad rings, thinking Prom and University choices.

One young lady, who was to become her best friend, she met on the first day of Kindergarten! I can still recall how excited she was to have met 'A'. "AND Guess what", I remember her saying excitedly,"her birthday is on Turkey Day!" Turned out that her birthday that year and Thanksgiving fell on the same day. They are still the best of friends today and are busy planning shopping, and photos. Of course her mom and I have a few tricks up our sleeves as well.

The summer is winding down, the sun has come out hot with little air movement here on the East Coast. Camping season is coming to a close -sadly. I have spent the last couple of days cleaning things out and putting things away. I have noticed others within the Campground have been doing to the same. It seems the summer just got here - with this weather influx it just did - and people are out and about visiting.

Beach exploration is done in shorts with one's head down.

Friendships from across the years are shared over a pot luck.

Wow, it's been 11 years and the kids have grown up together.  Graduation year for one, first year of high schoolfor another and middle school for the third one - girlfriends and boyfriends, dates and new discoveries.

Beaver Harbour/Black's Harbour

Well, it only took us 2 days to get to Beaver Harbour.  It was only 99 kms away

from our starting point.   But we had a great time,  we enjoyed our

side-bar visits to St. George (Lake Utopia) and St. Andrews.

Thank you to those that enabled us to do that!! 

We met some interesting folks while touring that part of the Province, some of which met us at the door.

We found Beaver Harbour and were met there by the hightide. So, we explored down the way a bit in Black's Harbour and waited for the tides to turn.

When we thought enough time had passed, we headed back to Beaver Harbour.

We travelled a total of 463 Km (instead of the 198 we had planned) over the 2 days and much enjoyed each other's company, seeing the coast from another location, gathering glass, geo-caching and visiting.

Thanks again Sue for inviting us to stay. It allowed us to visit Minister's Island (because of the tide schedule we had missed it the first day) and to enjoy the extra leisure for travel time.

This time next year, Black Rose will be in University so this road-trip was extra

special for me.  Thank again everyone for sharing.

Because we were so close to St. Andrews from St. George (only 22 km away) and...

Just a short drive across the ocean floor on the bar at low tide will take you to the summer residence of that visionary railway builder Sir William Van Horne.

It contained some fifty rooms, seventeen of which were bedrooms, and a grand drawing room as large as many of today's homes. Of course, there were servants' quarters and a huge dining room as well as a billiard room where his ornate six by twelve table still stands today.

Also constructed from the quarried beach stone is the circular bathhouse where Sir William would spend hours enjoying his hobby of drawing and painting.

Perhaps the loyalist Anglican minister, Parson Andrews whose old stone house (c 1790) still stands and for whom the island was named, felt the same magic that Sir William felt one hundred years later. Now another hundred years has passed and the mystique remains.

Thanks for the tour. Now to drive back across the ocean floor before the tide changes.

While visiting St. George we were invited to stay at the Cottage with Sue. What a spot - we didn't want to leave! Thanks again Sue & Steve!!

On the Road Again

We started out towards Beaver Harbour (99 kms away) during the early morning hours. Many people had told me to go there with Black Rose to gather Sea Glass. But as we got closer, we were only a few Kilometers (17 km approx)away from St. George where I knew some folks, so we decided to drive on and stop for a visit.

And of course, we geo-cached along the route. :-)
