June 13th a day I won't soon forget

"Wait I need to come closer...kisses"!
He then sat down,
placed his paw on my heart,
and looked me in the eye.
As if to say " It's time for me to go Mom.".

I had had to email to make the appointment,
I couldn't bring myself to utter
the words.

It was an emotional day for us.
This fella has been a true Gentleman, Companion and Confidante.
He will be affectionately remembered and profoundly missed.
Our little man, Bailey was diagnosed with Kidney Disease in August 2016.
RIP 'Puff Puff'

Time to clean house I think

This fellow is going on 11 years old and he gets cold sometimes. So, he wandered into the bathroom hoping someone was in the tub so he could have their clothes and such........hmmm Black Rose, you forgot to shut the door completely.

RIP Ollie Nov 15/08 to June 15/11

So tiny then.

He hardly fit into the carefully choosen box.
A piece of Black Rose's beach glass held by the ribbon.

He had gotten so big.

Black Rose Mourns a pet.

One day soon this bush will be in full bloom and Ollie will enjoy the shade
of the weigela.

Ollie

I read somewhere to feed him Garlic.
He certainly seems to love it.

I also read that at 4-6 weeks,
they are 6 to 8 years in our lives!!
The poor little fella, I hope he's okay.
I hear him breathing.

I once sat up all night watching a Goldfish.
It was Christmas Eve.
I have to ask - What kind of parent would I be
if I hadn't been sitting there when young Black Rose woke?

That little fella had gotten his fantail caught in the filter.
This little fellow appears to have bronchitis or other respiratory issue.

Ollie is now 2 1/2 years old

Did you know (or care) that:
Rats are intelligent, social animals.
They are easily tamed.
Relatively easy to care for, but are not low maintenance pets.
Require a fair amount of attention and exercise (at least an hour a day is ideal).
That rats are very social?

Average life span:  2-3 years.
Length: body 9-11 inches; tail 7-9 inches.
Nocturnal, so will be most active at night.
Imagine, a rat being active at night!!
Yep, all true.

I can feel you still say 'yuck' and maybe even shutter.
Well many of you anyway.
That's okay - I felt that way once too.

Happy Birthday!!!!

I am 9 today!  Don't I look young to you?  Yesterday, I was acting a little 'strange' according to my people. But hey, I am getting older and Black Rose had all of those people in for her Birthday. I am exhausted from telling them that I was going to be having a Birthday too.  I hope they come to my party...I am having a party aren't I mom?

**Shhh don't tell him, but he is getting a ball launcher.  He will LOVE it!  He loves to play fetch.**

Our Pets

These guys even camp with us.  The dog is 9 years old next month and the rat (yep, it's a rat) will be 1 in the fall. When we travel they go by carrier - one for each of them.  They sit in the back seat buckled and ready to explore.

Cashew Cutie "CC"

I had made the comment that people don't like rats because of their tail and how it would be interesting to have one that has no tail. Rats regulate their tempature through their tails as well as use them to help with balance.
We rescued this little girl from being fed to snakes. She had no tail and we sometimes wondered if she was blind in one eye. She was more like a kangaroo in that she seemed to hop instead of run. But hop she did and quickly!! She (unlike our other rat) loved the water.
We named her Cashew Cutie, "CC" for short, because of her color and because she's a cutie. RIP 'little one' 11/29/09

In like a Lion?

Even the dog can't tell if there's someone out there. He thought 'dad' had come home.
Today is March 2nd, 2009 and this step has been cleared off numerous times tonight.
'Dad' had things to get done even though his 'people' had suggested he stay at home with us. The dog has been searching for him both inside and out for about an extra hour by this time. We are worried.
Oh, wait he's here...the dog is going crazy, and his people are glad to see him too.

Wiskers & all

Pets - they keep us company, annoy us, protect us and sometimes even sleep with us.

In our house we have 2 pets - one is the fluffy noisy fellow you see below, the other is much more quiet. However, some people (James especially) shudder when they hear of our 2nd critter....he's a rat. Yep, as in 'Ratatouille'. Well, maybe not so much into cooking, but still very personable.

I have to admit, I still can't believe I kinda like the little fellow. We haven't had him long, but he has grown on me.

He certainly is quieter than the pooch and doesn't shed as much, nor does he eat near the same amount of food.

Pets - don't we just love them? Wiskers and all.

Good afternoon my friend,
Just a short note today. It is yet another snow-day here in NB with more to come. Our american eskimo/pom loves to catch snowballs. Does he not look like he's roaring at you?
We were going to travel to the coast today for a visit; however, with the weather we have decided to put that off until another day.

Movies & Munchies instead.
