SHE'S COME UNDONE

"Meet Dolores Price.  She's thirteen, wise-mouthed but wounded, having bid her childhood goodbye.  Stranded in front of her bedroom TV, she spends the next few years nourishing herself with the Mallomars, potato chips, and Pepsi her anxious mother supplies.  When she finally orbits into young womanhood at 257 pounds, Dolores is no stronger and life is no kinder.  But this time she's determined to rise to the occasion and give herself one more chance before she really goes under."

I enjoy a good read. Let me start by saying that 'F' is NOT my favorite letter followed by 3 letters! BUT, this book kept me coming back (or not putting it down in a lot of cases).  Even though I was very fortunate  in life as a teen, I could still relate.  The biggest thing about the way this book is written is that I had to kept checking the back cover to confirm the writer is male!  I can't believe the insight this guy has!!  I am going to be looking for his other novels.  One little bit before you head to your next blog read though:

"So, did you get your eyes tested?   Yeah. I need bi-focals. I didn't order any though. The girl holding up the mirror was snapping her gum. I just kept trying on all these frames and getting more and more confused. It's weird, you know? One minute you're this cool young guy with a Camaro and your whole life ahead of you. The next you're some old farsighted fart sitting across from an 'optical consultant' who's young enough to be your daughter." Taken from novel "SHE'S COME UNDONE" by Wally Lamb.   I can't relate to being "this cool young guy" but rest I can, how about you?
